Purpose. Statement of Faith.

The purpose of this blog is threefold.

First, I will provide some perspective on current events in light of scripture. No attempt will be made here to deal with issues like Bible Prophesy and Eschatology. I have great respect for those who are attempting to bring light to End Times issues. We are encouraged in the New Testament by Jesus Himself and the writers of the Epistles to be looking for the coming of the Lord. But on a more practical basis, I find little in the way of bringing understanding to the Christian about what effect the news they see relates to their daily lives and their general understanding of how events are shaping the culture in their sphere of influence. I hope to bring that perspective down into the 30 mile--or so--radius around your home so that you can understand it.

Secondly, I am passionate about Christian involvement in the political process. We are clearly commanded in the Bible to be "light and salt" to the earth (Matt. 5:13-16). Through many years of working as a volunteer and running statewide political efforts, I still find that many Christians simply will not get their hands dirty in the political realm. To be certain, we have come a long way since the late 70's when Jerry Falwell woke us all up to the need for involvement, but we have much farther to go. I want to make a case to the reader that he or she is commanded by scripture to be involved in the political process. And when a Christian does become involved, they must be "wise as serpents and innocent as doves" living by the maxim of St. Francis, "preach the gospel at all times: use words when necessary." I will give insight in some of my posts about how to practically become involved, the legal issues of church involvement in light of 501 c(3) regulations and the biblical foundation for action.

Thirdly, I want to give some personal insight to help the average Christian understand what's behind the events orchestrated by political campaigns. When you read about some statement a politician made, you don't know the whole story in most cases. A normal statement in support of a position or about an opponent may seem innocent enough, but there is much more to what you read in the press than what seems evident in the reporting. And many times the reporting itself is misleading or incomplete. Having some experience in this process as a Campaign Manager for many local and statewide campaigns, I hope to put some perspective in the process for the Christian.

The last thing I would like to do here is to give a personal statement of faith. This is not at all intended to be comprehensive. I have condensed these statements to what I believe so that the Christian reader can make some sense of where I stand as a believer. I think you will find this helpful:

1) I believe there is one God, fully perfect, eternally existing in three persons: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

2) I believe Jesus Christ is Emmanuel, God with us. He had a virgin birth conceived of the Holy Spirit. He died on the cross freely giving His life as a substitutional sacrifice for all men. He was buried and rose again on the third day as the Scripture says, and He is now seated at the right hand of the Father with full authority in the Godhead as our great High Priest and advocate for the believer. He will come again in glory to gather up all those who are believers. At that time, He will judge all mankind in righteousness.

3) The Holy Spirit was sent to earth to indwell the believer and to give him or her power to live this life, to remind him of Christ's teachings, to convict him of sin, to teach him to live a holy life and to lead him in the process of sanctification without which he or she will not see God.

4) The 66 books of the Old and New Testament are God's inerrant word given to us. It is a perfect, complete revelation of God's will for mankind and is the one guide for Christian Faith.

5) Man was originally created in the image of God. He fell through the disobediance of Adam and Eve which caused death to mankind. All mankind since has been born in sin, separated from the life of God. Jesus Christ, through His shed blood on the cross made a way for the spirit of man to once again have life. Every man must be born again to have life with God by committing their life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ by recognizing their sinful-dead state and repenting of sin and turning to Him. Jesus work was complete on the cross and can fully bring new life to every human heart that surrenders himself to Jesus Christ.

6) The Church consists not of denominations, but of every person of any denomination who has made a personal commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and has been cleansed by His blood thereby being born a second time to new life in their once dead spirit. Jesus is the only way to salvation, and there is no other way to heaven but Him.
